Dear Doctor,
How many DC’s have treated patients with love, compassion and great results only to be disappointed when the payments arrived. Furthermore, how many DC’s were told by insurance companies that there was an 80/20 coverage only to find that after the insurance company reviewed the file, the patient’s treatment was not medically necessary or the diagnosis was not appropriate for the treatment plan. Or, better yet, the patient had exhausted his or her health coverage.
Medically integrating with medical doctors (MD’s, DO’s) and or nurse practitioners (NP’s) has resolved many office problems. In fact, an MD/DC/PT medical integration approach to the chiropractic profession is a very beneficial and popular way to treat patients. Thereupon, the basic concept is that a chiropractor and a medical doctor (or DO, NP…) join forces and are able to render treatment under one roof with the greatest benefits to the patient. Although there are very specific legal ramifications that need to be addressed, the concept follows a model and practical medical protocol which the insurance companies are determined to follow.
Fascinatingly, a director has control of this medical integrated center, and can all be done legally with proper counsel. I practiced this way for years and since 1994, I have taught this concept to thousands of doctors nationally. Additionally, as a practicing doctor, I encountered the limits of health coverage and the limits insurance companies are putting on health care on a daily basis. Altogether, the MD/DC DC/PT medical integration approach enabled me to practice at a much greater profit and with less restrictions. My patients, my most important asset, have benefited immensely.
